Please note the following message from Paul Davidson:

As you know, at AUCC’s business meeting on October 25, 2011, members unanimously approved AUCC’sStatement on Academic Freedom.  AUCC issued a press release following the meeting and posted the new statement on the AUCC web site here.

On November 4, 2011  the Canadian Association of University Teachers issued an open letter to AUCC.  That letter is attached (available in English only). AUCC’s open letter in response is posted on our web site here.

As part of AUCC’s comprehensive communications strategy around our newly adopted Statement on Academic Freedom, attached are some initial Q&As to assist members in internal discussions on this topic and in responding to media queries. Another useful resource is the University Affairs opinion piece by Professor Peter MacKinnon, president of the University of Saskatchewan and chair of AUCC’s Standing Advisory Committee on the Act and By laws, which developed the statement.  Professor MacKinnon’s article can be found here.

More tools will follow in the coming weeks to support members’ efforts in this area.
