As part of the Government of Canada's efforts to return to balanced
budgets, NSERC will hold one last competition for its Research Tools
and Instruments (RTI) Program in 2013. This competition will be at a
reduced funding level as compared to previous competitions.
Commitments for existing RTI Grants will be honoured. We encourage the
research community to explore other avenues for funding research tools
and instruments, including NSERC’s many programs that allow for the
purchase of equipment, among other expenses. Additionally, requests
for smaller scale equipment can be incorporated into larger scale
funding requests to the Canada Foundation for Innovation, where
appropriate.

MEMO TO :  UNIVERSITY RESEARCH GRANTS OFFICERS

I am writing to inform you that as part of the Government of Canada’s
efforts to return to balanced budgets, the NSERC Major Resources
Support (MRS) Program will no longer be accepting new applications at
this time. Commitments for existing installments will be honoured;
however, there will be a moratorium on the MRS Program.

Due to changes to the MRS Program, the release of the results of the
2012 MRS competition has been delayed. Results of the competition will
be communicated to applicants as soon as they are available.
